We could all do with a little help online from time to time so today I thought I’d share some of my Internet Marketing Resources with our readers.
I committed 26 of my Internet marketing resources to a PDF and aptly titled it ‘The A2Z of Cool Internet Marketing Resources, Websites and Apps” so it was easy to share and syndicate on document sharing sites like Slideshare.net.
You can find it below and download it for future reference, embed it in your website or read it directly from the page.
Incidently, using the Slideshare.net and/or similar sites, is a great way to repackage and position your content, spread your messages, build links back to your site and drive new traffic to your website.
If you have old content of PDF’s on your hard drive you can quickly get them up online and get them working for you at next to no cost.
Remember to use your keywords in the title and in the keyword field then away you go, no description to write or like videos, long upload times.

In less than 24 hours our shared document was seen almost 200 times (see above) on Slideshare alone. We actually uploaded it to a further 20 similar document sharing sites like scribd and docstoc but there is no way of telling how many times it has been downloaded or embedded into other sites without paying for the Pro version of the service on Slideshare.
Low and behold! Those nice people at Slideshare sent me an email after reaching 100 views and offered a free 1 month Pro Account so I can find out where those views are coming from: )

I am fortunate enough to be able to do a lot of of traveling and I also spend a considerable amount of time online but it always surprises me when I find a business that doesn’t have a website. After all, online is where customers are searching for products and services and a website is your shop window to the world.

I, like most people, ran a company many years ago and I wanted to get my business seen online and needed a website building. I didn’t know anything about DNS, HTML, PHP, CSS, Style Sheets and all the other coding scripts and tech babble so I bought ‘Building a Website for Dummies’.

I struggled to get my head around the simplest of ideas and I could see this was going to take a forever to figure out and build a functional and good looking website. Time I didn’t have as I was running a business. I wasn’t a designer or a coder.

A long story short, a friend built me a  websites instead. All well and good but I often wanted to change or add new content to my site. This was expensive and I couldn’t always get hold of him so the updates were not very timely.

This I found very frustrating but made me determined to find a solution to my problem. I knew there was a way of being in control of my own site and business. WordPress is an open source web blog, meaning literally thousands of people and companies contribute to developing the style and functionality of the code and do so continually.

No 2 WordPress’s are ever be the same as there are thousands of designs, widgets, plugins and themes to mix and match. They are totally customizable and incredibly search engine and design friendly. They really are the perfect fusion between, design, functionality and SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

You can have a free WordPress and host it on their platform or a self hosting wordpress giving you unlimited functionality. To self host your WordPress (it’s what I would recommend) all you need to do is purchase a domain name from a domain name company like Namecheap. (more about domain names and web hosting in future posts) Once you have your domain name for example: www.mywordpress.com you need to host it somewhere. Never purchase a domain name and host it with the same company. It’s like having all your eggs in one basket!

I highly recommend Hostgator as the hosting company for your domain. They have round the clock customer service that is second to none and dozens of fantastic training videos. So if you want to learn how to carry out just about any task on your website by literally watching over someone’s shoulder, you can start/pause and teach yourself very easily using these video tutorials. Hostgator are also committed to providing greener solutions for their servers. With their certified Renewable Energy Credits (REC’s) in wind power, HostGator is not just neutralizing their environmental impact, they’re actually reversing it. So by hosting your website with them you’ll be making a positive impact on the environment too.

You will need to point the DNS (Domain Name Servers) to your servers and wait for it to propergate. When this is done (it can take a few minutes or up to a day) look for the Fantastico DeLuxe logo or Hostgator’s WordPress Quickinstall in your control panel. Click on one of the logos and follow the easy instruction and in less than a minute you will have a live WordPress blog style website. It really is that easy, I mean if I can do it just about anybody can! And as I say, there are excellent training videos showing you how to do it, each and every simple step of the way.

Blend Local Search Case Study #1

In our first case study for Local Search Marketing by Blend, we are going to have a look at Perry’s Aquatic Centre.

Perry’s Aquatic Centre is a tropical, marine and cold-water fish shop in Lincolnshire. The business has been around for over 18 years but had no website.

Blend started by discussing with the owner what they wanted to achieve with an online presence and together decided on what search terms they wanted to be found by. We then build a Blog website that allowed the owners to manage content and communicate with their customers on a regular basis in the future.

In less than two weeks Blend had positioned Perry’s Aquatic Centre on Page 1 of Google and within three weeks had 7 out of 10 listings for the keyword search terms. A further 4 listings were recorded on Page 2 of Google.

The first new customer the website produced purchased goods from the centre with a ‘Print-off and Present’ voucher on the second weekend after the websites launch.

Blend also opened an affiliate account with Amazon and built an online store on the website. This generates a revenue stream of passive income for the owners. In other words they earn money for doing nothing. Amazon looks after all the sales and posts Perry’s Aquatic Centre a commission check every month. All they have to do is cash it.

Above The end-of-week 1 screen shots using the keywords ‘Aquatics Centre Lincoln’. The search term turns up 151,000 listings. Notice Perry’s Aquatic Centres website has yet to rank on Google Page 1 but directory listing are present.

Above At the end of week 3, Perry’s Aquatic Centre completely dominates Google Page One with 7 out of 10 local search listings including #1 and #2. There is also a map, directions and the company’s telephone number and full postal address.

It also has two video listings further down that catch the eye of the searcher. Also notice the #2 listing is indented. If you click on ‘show more results’ button another 5 pages of Perry’s Aquatic Centre are opened.
